Boost Staff Morale without the Pay Rise!
At some point most workplaces go through stages where staff morale is low. As the employer or manager you may be thinking I have to give my staff a pay rise in order to keep them happy.
This is actually not necessarily true, there are ways you can keep your staff happy without having to pay them more.
Give them a chance to Lead
Letting your employee’s lead certain projects can give them a sense of pride and ownership. By playing on their strengths can not only get important projects done quicker but make the employee feel like you appreciate their work.
Praise them when they have done well
When an employee has done well give them praise and let them know they have done their job well. This will give them a sense of accomplishment and also let them know you have noticed their work. You could also bring up employee accomplishments in company meetings showing your staff appreciation.
Listen to their Ideas
All employees will have ideas on how things can be improved in their job. So why not let them voice these in a company meeting or even one on one. Sometimes they could have a valid idea you haven’t thought of and also lets them know they can be involved in changing things in the workplace.
Use Constructive Criticism
No one likes to be criticised and an employee that you continually criticise can be quite destructive. Instead sit down with them and go through what went wrong and ask them how they could have improved. This way they don’t feel like they are in trouble or you are pointing the finger and you find a resolution to the problem more effectively.
Have a Social Committee
Not every employer can afford to take their employees out all the time. So why not have a Social Committee? This can just be one person in your workplace that runs this and can organise company events for people to attend after hours and where staff can pay their own way. This gives your employees time out of the workplace to get to know one another and can also make your team closer.
Company Meetings
Not every employer has the time to have a company meeting but it can be important. By having a company meeting it keeps employees in the loop about what is going on with the company. It also gives them a chance to bring up any grievances they may have at the time. This is also your chance to bring up performance and how you think things could be improved.
Keeping staff happy does not mean you have to give them more money. By simply listening to your staff and giving them a chance to show you their ideas can make them feel appreciated. It can also make them feel that you have noticed their work and want to help them improve in their job. You may not want to adopt all these ideas but even a few of these could help boost morale in your company or workplace.
